We hope that you and your families are all doing well.
This is a follow-up to the initial information that went out a couple of weeks ago regarding the upcoming celebrations of First Reconciliation and First Communion for your child/children.
Since that time, some families have expressed their preference to wait until a later date for these celebrations due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19, which we completely understand.
Given this, what we would like to do at this time is ask you whether or not you DO plan to take part on the date(s) given to your child’s school in September/October. If a significant proportion of families from a given school opt to wait until a later date, then there will likely be more seats available for each family that would like to participate this fall.
I would ask you to please send your reply to our youth minister, Wes Moga, at email@example.com by no later than Wednesday, September 9. Then we will follow up with those choosing to participate to update you on the number of seats/family available.
Since the children’s in-class preparation for one or both of these Sacraments was disrupted or cut short by the closure of the schools, our Diocese has suggested that the children/parents/families who will be participating this fall have a look at the following videos which cover the basics of each Sacrament. This will help them to better understand what their First Reconciliation and First Communion are all about and make these celebrations more meaningful for them.
· Sophia Sketchpad: Confession https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDyMHg8HkSE
7 min. 54 sec. – good for adults and children
· Busted Halo Sacraments 101- (why we confess) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz5-vu6A58E
5 min. 9 sec. – for adults, excellent catechesis on Reconciliation but brief enough for children
· Sophia Sketchpad: The Eucharist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcB7Uem00n4
6 min. 38 sec. – good for adults and children
· Busted Halo Sacraments 201- (what we believe) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMSiHGTBdGk
9 min. 18 sec. – for adults, excellent catechesis on the Mass, but brief enough for children
We will be in touch with a final update for those choosing to participate this fall on Thursday, September 10. In the meantime, please remember to let Wes know by September 9 whether or not you will be participating, and don’t hesitate to contact her or myself with any questions.
